On November 15, the Troopers will host the first in a series of annual Mandala Projects. Each production will perform the action of a mandala through carefully arranged visuals, layouts and sound. The intent is to build a psychedelic generator that converts everyday experience into luminous revelation.
Mandalas are brought to life with the colours, shapes, symbols, visual metaphors and the gestures of the cosmic dance. Visual cues invite bodies and minds to turn inward and transform themselves both out of and into existence.
As a cosmic diagram under construction, the Mandala Project aims to build a dancefloor around a mandala theme. Specially-designed banners, projections, lights, floor-plans, and sound-rigs will be arranged (through sacred geometry) to become a living four-dimensional mandala that participants activate through sheer fun. By providing the physical circuit of a mandala, we entice participants to step outside of ordinary space and time for a transitory celebration of playful abandon and creation through dance and sound.
Mandalas turn experience, expression and thought towards the heart of the cosmic beat. They are meant as interactive diagrams. Using them can be as easy and natural as feeling a rhythm and transforming it through the primal act of dancing. All it takes to activate a mandala is the right setting and the right intent. On 15 November 2008, the Troopers aim to create just that!
Join us, as we inaugurate a decade of Trooping the Groove by celebrating millennia of mandala construction in caves, temples and dancefloors around the planet.
